The Benefits of Chiropractic Adjustments

The benefits of chiropractic can include:

  • Correcting the cause, not just treating the symptoms.
  • Improvement of overall immunity, function and health.
  • Relief from pain and symptoms.
  • A quicker recovery and back to work faster.
  • Prevention of surgery.
  • Safe, painless and affordable health care.
  • Restoration of normal nerve supply.
  • The slowing of spinal degeneration (arthritis) and improved disc health.
  • Improved posture and mobility.
  • Relief of stress and tension.
  • Increased energy.
  • Better sleep.
  • A slowing of the aging process.
  • Improved athletic performance.
  • Increases the efficiency of the cell membrane and therefore your cells and therefore your body.
  • Feeling better overall!

A chiropractic adjustment does the following:

  • Restores motion, increases range of motion and symmetry of motion.
  • Restores normal biomechanics and therefore load distribution.
  • Pumps out waste products and excess fluid (in this way, it relieves inflammation.)
  • Improves the delivery of nutrition to discs and articular cartilage (the covering around your joints).
  • Relaxes tight muscles.
  • Normalizes proprioception: this is how your nervous system knows where you are in relation to your surroundings.
  • Helps your spinal reflexes: the nerves that tell your brain where your body is and what and when to contract in order to protect your spine and other joints.
  • Accelerates healing due to increased metabolic rate and increased collagen and protein production.
  • Improves alignment of new connective tissue.

How does a chiropractic adjustment work?

Our bones/joints can get stuck within a given or restricted range of motion. Bones do not just get pushed out of place; they are pulled upon by the tendons and muscles and are encased within strong fibrous ligaments. Chiropractic adjustments use a high acceleration and low force movement to restore normal range of motion. This type of movement generates enough energy to overcome the resistance and/or restrictions. It has an added benefit of changing the neurological input around joints. This is especially good if the nerves are facilitated, meaning they have "lost their turn off switch." A painful example of the result of a facilitated nerve is a muscle spasm. An adjustment will also help hydrate your discs, which are the cushions between each vertebra. You want your discs to stay hydrated so they can continue to act as cushions.

By restoring normal motion and neurological input, the adjustment also increases blood flow. This allows information and nutrients to get to your cells, which of course, keeps your cells healthier. This in turn, allows your DNA to replicate in a healthy way. This decreases your possibility of having mutations and other problems, i.e. allowing cancer cells to develop. Movement is what feeds everything, down to the level of your cells. Without proper movement, your cells are not feed properly.

Your response to a chiropractic adjustment may vary due to the following:

  • Severity of the injury.
  • How long you have had the injury.
  • Your age.
  • Your overall health and ability to recover.
  • You compliance with care.
  • Your ability to avoid activities that perpetuate the injury.

When should you come into the office for treatment?

  • New injury
  • Flare-up of an old injury
  • Aches and pains
  • Headaches
  • Prevention of injuries
  • Whenever you want the benefits of a healthy nervous system.
